l-theanine & caffeine synergy: a staple nootropic

Caffeine is arguably the most popular energy compound on the market. Caffeine promotes a boost in cognitive function, focus and mood that is welcomed by coffee and tea drinkers. Coffee and tea drinkers also reap the benefits of powerful anti-oxidants the support a healthy gut microbiome and cardiovascular system.

L-Theanine is an amino acid that "rounds" off the negative effects of caffeine. L-Theanine can reduce the "peaks and crashes" of caffeine to smooth out the experience. Put simply, L- Theanine has relaxing properties that do not interfere with the stimulating properties of caffeine.

L-theanine brain imaging showing increased alpha waves improving cognitive performance.

The graphic above compares the findings when individuals were given either L-theanine of a placebo during a demanding attention task.  The results show significant increases in Alpha waves and activity in the right posterior parietal cortex, a region in the brain important to visual stimulus and attention. Directions:

Shake bag to make sure herbs are evenly mixed. Scoop 1 tbsp of tea into a loose leaf tea brewing method of your choice (we use a Bodum French Press). Pour 8oz of water at 195deg F and steep for 6-8 mins depending on your patience and desired strength. Strain and pour. Add natural sweetener as desired (we use stevia). If 195 is too hot for you to drink, add some cool water after tea is done brewing. Use common sense when consuming hot drinks. ENJOY!

Drink 1-2x daily. For best results, weave this tea into your daily routine. The benefits of some adaptogenic herbs improve with regular use.

First impressions of Energy Tea

I was/am interested in something other than coffee to give me an energy boost after lunch, ordered Energy Tea on line. Received promptly, well packaged, easy to understand instructions. Used approximately 2 teaspoons in 20 ounces of water heated to 195 degrees, steeped for 5-6 minutes.
I am a medical professional, spend my work time interviewing patients, performing physical exams, reviewing charts, writing notes in an electronic medical record. Cannot claim any difference in level of mental acuity, elevation of mood or increased energy comparing tea to a relatively strong cup of french roast.
Taste is unrated as I was not interested in form, function was my endpoint.
